Is This For You?
You must have a site of disease from which we can obtain living cancer cells.
Is there a portion of your cancer that can be obtained for our laboratory analysis? Prior biopsies cannot be used for testing. We need to obtain a fresh, viable tumor sample. Do you currently have cancer in a solid tumor or lymph node? In pleural or ascites fluid? Or, if you have leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma, can we obtain a blood or bone marrow specimen?
You must be physically strong enough to undergo further therapy.
We will determine which chemotherapeutic drug(s) will most effectively kill your cancer cells. However, if you are too ill or unable to tolerate the side effects of chemotherapy, we may not be able to apply our results to your benefit.
You must not have received chemotherapy or radiation within the past three weeks.
Any recent exposure to chemotherapy or radiation may sensitize your tumor to the drugs we test and cause inaccurate results. Thus, a three-week treatment-free period is required.
You may need to travel to our facility in Southern California for an evaluation and/or treatment.
It may not be possible for your physician to collect the specimen, send it to our facility for laboratory analysis, and administer the recommended treatments. Therefore, you may wish to travel to Long Beach, California, where we can arrange to have the specimen collected, and if necessary, administer the recommended treatment.
